One of the puzzling phenomena of the Protestant Reformation is the sheer number of different denominations that arose out of this split with the Roman church. For some this raises questions about the legitimacy of the Reformation--was this a good thing? For some, it raises fundamental questions about the Christian message--if we are supposed to be one in Christ, why so many divisions?

Rev. Jack Watson will speak with us about this question. Jack is pastor emeritus of Bethel Presbyterian Church and director of the Anselm Institute. He's been a regular speaker to CGSA, presenting to us last fall on C S Lewis.

Time and Location: We will be meeting at 6:30 pm in the Ohio Stater's Traditions Room on the second floor of the Ohio Union. Visitor parking is available in the garage next to the Union. For those with permits, nearby parking is available in the law school lot or street parking on W 11th. Afterwards, we will go out for dinner at the restaurant that won our Yahoo poll. To join the Yahoo group, go to www.osu-cgsa.org and go to the contact us page and follow the instructions.

Thursday Night Main Event. This is the culminating event of the Price of Life Invitational. If you have not been able to attend any of the other events, consider coming tonight and bring friends. This has been an incredible week and tonight will be the last chance for most of us to connect with it. It will be at 7 pm tonight in the Archie Griffin Ballroom of the Ohio Union.

Friday 04/16 @ CGSA
Friday, April 16, 2010, 12:11 PM - Friday Meetings
This Friday, the focus is on forgiveness, particularly the connection between forgiving others and being forgiven by God. Forgiveness is often hard when we've been wounded deeply by others. And there are times when the person who we need to forgive has no interest in reconciliation or being forgiven. What is the Lord's call to us in these situations. That's what we will explore together this Friday.

Time and Location: We meet 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday in the Ohio Union. This Friday we will be in the Student Alumni Council Room in the northwest corner (toward Hagerty) of the second floor of the Union. This map should help you find us. Afterwards, we will go out to an inexpensive restaurant chosen on the Yahoo poll. Go to the 'contact us' section of the CGSA website for instructions how to join this group.

Price of Life: It's all on the website at www.osupriceoflife.org. Think especially about marching in the Parade of Tears at 3 pm Sunday (and raise $100 if you can!). Also, come to the grad niche event Tuesday night at 6 pm at McPherson. Food will be provided. But there's lots more throughout the week. Take some time if you haven't already to visit the site and decide what you will do. This has been done only at a few other universities so this is probably a once in a lifetime week of events.

Thursday, April 1, 2010, 04:01 PM - Friday Meetings
For those who will be on campus this Friday, we will have a CGSA meeting that will consist of a service of scripture readings, songs, prayers, and individual sharing--loosely structured around the Anglican liturgy (without the Eucharist). Our focus will be around the work of Christ on the cross. You may even want to spend some time reflecting on what the cross means for you.

SAME TIME: We will meet 6:30 to 8:00 pm and as always, go out to dinner afterward to whatever restaurant wins the Yahoo poll. If you would like to participate, go to our website: www.osu-cgsa.org and follow the instructions on the 'contact us' page.

NEW LOCATION: With the opening of the Ohio Union, PAES is no longer available for groups to book (sniff!). Instead, we will be meeting spring quarter in the new Union in the Ohio Staters Traditions Room. If you enter the main hall of the union and go up the staircase to the second floor, the Ohio Staters Traditions Room is off to the right just to the right of another staircase. I saw the room today and I think you will like it!

PARKING: Those with a C permit can park in front of or beside the Law School after 4 pm as space is available (this is a B permit lot). There is also some parking on W 12 and I believe meters are not enforced on W 11th after 6 pm. Those who don't have a permit can park in the South Union Garage. They charge a flat $3 after 6 pm Friday. Traffic and Parking's website also says "In the evening, OSU faculty/staff and student keycard parking is available between 4pm and 3am" in the South Garage (the one closest to the Union).

Price of Life Announcements:
• April 10 from 9:30 to 3 pm. Proxe station training for those who couldn't make the February training.
• April 18, 3 pm at the new Union west patio. Parade of Tears. Join thousands of others in a demonstration against human trafficking. Raise $100 or more toward our goal of raising $100,000. People can donate online at www.osupriceoflife.org and there are suggestions from A to Z about quick and easy ways to raise $100 or more.
• April 19, 7 pm, Town Hall event at the Performance Hall in the new Ohio Union.
• April 20, 6 pm--our grad niche event with Dr. Wayne Barnard and IJM media. This will be a grad friendly event. Information to follow next week on location.
• Daily, April 19-22: Proxe stations 10 am to 4 pm at 20 locations around campus!

Thursday, March 11, 2010, 10:17 PM - Friday Meetings
We will be finishing our study of Ecclesiastes this Friday with John Acker leading us in our discussion of chapters 11 and 12.

LOCATION AND TIME: We will be meeting in PAES 103. As usual we will gather at 6:30 and after some time to hang out and catch up, we will enter into worship and then dig into Ecclesiastes. We finish around 8 pm and then go out afterward to dinner at a local dinner spot decided on via a survey to the Yahoo group.

TOPIC FOR NEXT QUARTER: Next quarter's topic is "what you always wanted to know about Christianity but were afraid to ask." What this means is that we will be soliciting your questions on this theme. We will be collecting suggestions at this Friday's meeting, or you can email me if you won't be able to make it. Can't guarantee that we will cover every question but we will do as many as we can. This Friday will be your last chance to submit topics!

SMALL GROUPS AND SALT GROUPS: We are interested in finding out whether there are people interested in a SALT group (disciplinary discussion and support groups) or a small group meeting near campus. Email Bob Trube at RTrube54@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in participating in (or leading!) one of these groups!

PARADE OF TEARS: This is the kickoff event for the Price of Life Invitational. It will take place on Sunday April 18 from 3 to 6 pm beginning at the new Ohio Union. We hope 5,000 plus students and others in the Christian community will participate. We also hope each participant will donate/raise $100 toward anti-trafficking efforts of our partnership organizations. Our overall goal is to raise over $100,000 through this event. Online donations can made through the website. If you collect any donations, checks should be to InterVarsity with Price of Life in the memo. All proceeds will go to our partner organizations. So plan to walk and help us reach our goal in the fight against human trafficking!

$100 IS EASY TO RAISE! Some ideas: sell old books, CDs, skip a latte' for Lent, put a can with a Parade of Tears Card on it in your office. Find 10 friends to chip in $10, announce it in your church or church small group.

IN CLASS SPEAKERS AVAILABLE DURING PRICE OF LIFE! If you TA or are in a class that you think might have any connection to the issue of human trafficking, we will have a number of speakers with various backgrounds available to speak April 19-22. Contact Bob at RTrube54@sbcglobal.net if you want to schedule one of these speakers.
