Friday June 30 at CGSA
Thursday, June 29, 2006, 06:21 PM - Friday Meetings
"Father Abraham had many sons, many sons had father Abraham." This Friday in our series on "Women, Men, and God" we will consider the story of Abraham and explore why we can call him "father." [By the way, next week we will look at the story from the side of the women, Sarah and Hagar.]

Time and Place. We will meet at our usual time of 6:30 pm. We meet at the Student Center of the Summit United Methodist Church, 82 E 16th Ave. You can find Directions here! Parking is available off Waldeck in back of the church for free. Come down the hill out of the lot, start walking toward E. 16th, then follow the sidewalk that goes up to the building where you see the sign for the Student Center. We will have someone at the door to greet you!

CGSA Campout Date Set! The CGSA summer campout is one of our great traditions. This year's campout is set for the weekend of August 4-6 at Alum Creek State Park. Look for an email soon with details and a signup. Don't have camping gear? Don't worry! If you have questions contact Jon Helmus (helmus.3@osu.edu) or Adrea Lovejoy (lovejoy.11@osu.edu).

Fireworks! Red, White, and Boom is a Columbus Independence Weekend tradition. This year's celebration is on July 3. You can get information about this at NBC4i.com--Red, White, and Boom. There will be an announcement about group plans to go to the fireworks at this Friday's meeting as well as over the CGSA Yahoo Group. If you need more information, contact Jona Hilario at hilario.2@osu.edu.

Featured Link. Tuesday is Independence Day. For many of us, it is a long time, if ever, since we've read the Declaration of Independence. And if the USA is not your country of origin, reading the Declaration can help you understand something of the history and ideas that shaped our country's beginnings. You can read a transcript or see a facsimile of the actual document at The National Archives.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Summer Fridays at CGSA Start This Week
Thursday, June 22, 2006, 10:20 AM - Friday Meetings
Summers are always a little different in the Christian Graduate Student Alliance. Meetings are more informal and usually consist of a study led by different members of the group. We always go camping in the middle of the summer. And there are lots of informal activities like cookouts, frisbee golf and other fun things. To learn about these join our Yahoo Group by going to the "Contact Us" page at The CGSA Website.

This summer's theme is "Women, Men, and God" and will consist of a series of character studies of women and men of the Bible and their relationships with God. We tend to be far more familiar with the stories of men in scripture. This study will help redress the balance since half of those we will study are women. And this week's study will start with the first woman of them all, Eve.

Time and Place--New Location for Summer!. We will meet at our usual time of 6:30 pm but we have a different meeting location for the summer (another CGSA tradition thanks to the university!). We will be meeting in the Student Center of the Summit United Methodist Church, 82 E 16th Ave. You can find Directions here! Parking is available off Waldeck in back of the church for free. Come down the hill out of the lot, start walking toward E. 16th, then follow the sidewalk that goes up to the building where you see the sign for the student center. We should have someone at the door to greet you!

Featured Link. Issues of gender and sexuality have been much in the news recently. One of the most helpful ministries I know of dealing in a caring yet biblical way with these issues is Redeemed Lives Ministries. Their website includes a resources section with various articles from their newsletter (available for free). Recent issues have had some very thoughtful articles on the concept of Gender.

Hope to see you this Friday if you are in Columbus!

The CGSA County Fair End of the Year Bash!
Friday, June 2, 2006, 09:57 AM - Friday Meetings
What: The CGSA County Fair
Why: Because it's almost summer!
When: 6:30 PM This Friday (6/02)
Where: Adrea Lovejoy's house.

The quarter is coming to a close, and CGSA is getting ready to
celebrate with our end of the year party this Friday! It's time to
let your inner redneck loose, so break out your big belt buckles,
cowboy hats, and other good country attire, whip up your favorite
baked item, and mosey on over to Adrea's place this Friday at 6:30
PM for the First Annual CGSA County Fair!

Now you might ask, what is involved in a fair besides butter
sculptures and deep-fried candy bars? We will be having a costume
contest for our best dressed country/redneck individual, a bake-off
to find the tastiest baked item, a barbecue dinner, recognition of
our graduates, and numerous other games. Even if you don't feel
able to bake anything, it would be great if you could bring a snack or
dessert to share. It should be a fun (and filling) time!

Those needing rides from the campus area should meet Jon Helmus at 6 PM in the Jones Tower lobby to carpool to the party.

Hope to see you all there!
