Wednesday, June 30, 2010, 10:49 PM - Friday Meetings
Instead of a regular meeting this week, we will be heading downtown for Red, White, and Boom. As we have done in past years, we will gather on campus--this time in the Maudine Cow Room (basement of the Union)--at 6:30 and have dinner at a nearby establishment. After dinner, we will take the bus downtown and make our way toward Long St. and Battelle Park to find a place to watch the show.
Things you might want to bring with you:
1) games (e.g. playing cards or small board games) to pass the time until the fireworks at 10:00
2) cash (in case you get hungry while we're downtown)
3) blanket (or something else to sit on)

Friday, June 25, 2010, 01:46 PM - Friday Meetings
This Friday evening will be the first meeting in our summer series focusing on culture, the arts, and faith. Over the course of the summer, we will look at a variety of arts and fields of culture--from music and drama to sports and politics--and think about how we as Christians can engage with and participate in culture and the arts. As a way of setting the stage for the rest of the series, this week's meeting will focus on the story of culture in the Bible, with special emphasis on the visions of the Holy City found in Isaiah 60 and Revelation 21-22.
Location: For the summer quarter, CGSA will be meeting in the Maudine Cow Room, located in the basement of the Union. We will gather at 6:30 and end by 8:00, at which time we will migrate to a restaurant of our choosing.

Grad culture is a drinking culture. Many of the gatherings and parties we attend (or even host) include alcohol. How are we to think about drinking and drunkenness as a Christian? If we think drinking appropriate, what should our practices be? If we think we should refrain, how do we do this in social contexts where this is accepted or even seems to be expected? Why do Christians differ about this stuff?
Pastor Miron Lee of Grace United Methodist Church and the International Christian Fellowship (Se Kyung's Pastor!) will be speaking. This is a question among Korean as well as American Christians and, as we've discussed in recent weeks, there is much we can learn from brothers and sisters in other cultural contexts!
Location: We will meet in the Ohio Staters Traditions Room on the second floor of the Ohio Union. We will start at 6:30 and end by 8 pm, after which we will go out to an inexpensive restaurant.
The Word on the Picnic! Thanks for your feedback. Based on what we've heard, we will move our picnic to Saturday, June 5 at 3 pm at our home, 8315 Yuma Drive, Powell, OH 43065. The theme stays the same: International. So bring international food, wear any international clothing you have and be prepared for a good time. We will say good-byes to graduates as well as unveil our new leadership team! Lots of good stuff!
