Vocation in the Kingdom of God
Have you — or someone close to you — had concerns about the survival of your faith during graduate school? Have you encountered misunderstanding or even opposition from other Christians as you pursue your graduate studies and research?
Does the Christian worldview stand up to alternative, often hostile worldviews? Is there any reason to find God’s joy in graduate or professional school work? These are the kinds of questions we will have a chance to discuss during the CGSA Winter Retreat. We will hear some reasons why God values the life of the mind and get some help to 'think Christianly.' We expect God to meet us as we come together and to find encouragement from Scripture and from fellowship with one another.
We’re planning a highly interactive format featuring a skit, testimonies and small group discussions. You will be given an opportunity to consider what it means to be a Christian in your profession or field of study.
Our goal is for you to gain a clearer vision for your academic or professional work as your vocation or calling from God and, as such, to be done to God’s glory and as part of God's kingdom work of reclaiming creation.
If you're thinking "I can't afford a weekend away!" this will actually only be a day away, from Friday night (when you weren’t going to work anyway) through Saturday afternoon. The retreat center is just an hour from campus and Monday will be a holiday.
So please join us for a great time! Details are available in the brochure [PDF] which can be downloaded here.

This Friday join us for our annual CGSA Christmas party! Planned events include: games, Christmas carols, food and drinks and a white elephant gift exchange. If you would like to participate in the white elephant gift exchange bring along a small gift (under $5) or even better find something lying around your home and bring that. Interesting, odd, or outrageous gifts are encouraged but please keep things tasteful.
Also if you would like to bring a snack, drinks, a side dish or dessert for all to partake, feel free. There will be pizza at the party for all, but other food is welcome. If you do plan to bring a dish please email Jona (jona.d.hilario@gmail.com) telling her what you plan on brining.
Finally is you think you're coming to the party please drop me a quick email (helmus.3@osu.edu) telling me, that way we can buy enough pizza for the group.
Time and Place
The party itself is at the community center at The Farms apartment (Randy and Christina's apartment complex) and starts around 7:00 pm. If you would like to carpool over from the campus area we will be meeting at 6:30 at our usual meeting place in Royer Student Activities Center located on north campus next to Jones Graduate Tower. We'll meet there, arrange for riders and drivers and leave around 6:45. If you need directions to the place, please email John Helmus (helmus.3@osu.edu) or Randy Mathison (mathison.4@osu.edu)
Upcoming Events
The next few weeks are OSU's winter break and CGSA will not be meeting. Have a great break and Christmas and come join us next quarter!
