Wednesday, August 11, 2010, 06:45 AM - Friday Meetings
We're in for a special treat at CGSA this week! The topic for this Friday evening's discussion is iconography, and our speaker will be Father Nicholas, a monk from St. Theodore House, which is a small Greek Orthodox monastery about an hour away in Galion, OH. Furthermore, to enhance the visual component of the talk, Father Nicholas has agreed to host us at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral. This is a great opportunity, and we hope to have a big group to take advantage of it.
Location: In order to facilitate orderly and efficient migration from OSU to the Cathedral, we'll still meet at our usual time (6:30) at the Union, but this week we'll be meeting upstairs in the Ohio Union Hays Cape Room (3rd floor). Note: Gathering at 6:30 is especially important this week so we can leave for the Cathedral in a timely fashion and maximize our time with Father Nicholas.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010, 11:16 PM - Friday Meetings
After several weeks of focusing on the arts, we'll be shifting our focus this Friday to a rather different dimension of culture: politics. Bryan Cole and Phil Jackson, both students in the Political Science department, will be leading a discussion about the relationship between religion and politics. In particular, we will consider the development of political communities in the Old and New Testaments, what the examples of Jesus and the apostles can teach us about our proper relationship to political authority, and what we can learn from the Civil Rights movement as an example of prophetic politics.
Location: As has been our summer custom, we will be meeting in the Maudine Cow Room, located in the basement of the Union. We will gather at 6:30 and end by 8:00, at which time we will migrate to a restaurant of our choosing.
Announcement: For those of you who missed John Acker's very engaging talk on sin in Christian art (7/16), the text of John's remarks and links to the materials we discussed are available at http://worldviewstudies.blogspot.com/20 ... ures.html.

Thursday, July 29, 2010, 05:38 PM - Friday Meetings
Please join us this Friday for the next discussion in CGSA's summer series on culture, the arts, and faith. Shadwa Mussad from the Music School will be helping us think about what we can learn about music and the arts from the Bible, and what that means for us as Christians, both in the context of a worship service and in our everyday lives. We'll also talk about and listen to some music, including works by J.S. Bach and others, and end with a time of praise and worship together.
Location: For the summer quarter, CGSA will be meeting in the Maudine Cow Room, located in the basement of the Union. We will gather at 6:30 and end by 8:00, at which time we will migrate to a restaurant of our choosing.
Hope to see many of you Friday!
